Much of Michael's work examines the rural environment of southern Ontario and our interaction with it. Whether this entails examining the history of a given landscape or chronicling the ever shrinking rural spaces around our cities, his ultimate aim is to introduce us to our environment, both physical and historical.

Michael's formal education is in philosophy and political theory. After extensive study of art history in secondary school, his interests shifted from painting to photography at a much later date. Michael found himself drawn to the immediacy of the photographic experience and the intricacies of the creative process with the camera. Currently residing in Markham, Ontario, Michael lives with his wife Kristi and daughter Kathleen.
